A little bit about us…
Myong-Hui Murphy | Global Art of Dance
Myong-Hui Murphy, co-founder of Global Art of Dance, discovered her love of the arts as a youth. Born in South Korea, she grew up in a suburb of Seattle, WA. Living in the US at a time when Immigrant Assimilation was the goal, she is excited to see how social norms have moved to embracing cultural diversity. The Global Art of Dance studios emphasize exploring and experiencing cultures of the world through dance. She loves watching people of all ages discover their creativity and their personal heritage through the classes taught at Global Art of Dance. Lisa Chang | Hula Halau ‘Ohana Holo’oko’a
Lisa Chang, Co-founder of Global Art of Dance, was instantly welcomed by the Hawaiian students she met while attending Oregon State University and it is that welcoming aloha she desires to share with her community. Oregon State University Hawai’i Club is where she got her first flavor of hula when her friends encouraged her to learn for their lu’au. After college, Lisa joined Hula Halau ‘O Pi’ilani in Santa Clara, California, beginning her formal hula training began. Lisa continued to study under Auntie Linda until she moved back to Oregon in 1994. In 1998, she started the halau with 5 adult students and now has over 90 students in 14 classes a week. Lisa gave up a 20 year career in pharmacy to follow her passion and teach hula full time in 2006. Her students currently reside in Seaside, Sheridan, Salem, Boring, Vancouver and everywhere in between. She hopes her students make life long friends with their hula sisters and brothers. Besides hula the halau also offers Tahitian dance lessons, Tahitian drumming and Polynesian Entertainment for events. You can find more info at www.hulaaloha.org
